Book Club: Speak, Silence with Kim Echlin 

The Harvard Club of Ottawa Book Club virtually welcomes Kim Echlin to speak about her new novel, Speak, Silence. While framed in fiction, the carefully researched book details intimate stories from women who lived through the Bosnian war and its aftermath.  From the point of view of a journalist, it tells stories of sexual violence that were bravely laid bare at the Hague, resulting in the declaration of rape as a war crime for the first time. 

As the book jacket eloquently states, “In a heart-wrenching tale of suffering and loss and a beautiful illustration of power and love, Echlin explores what it means to speak out against the very people who would do anything to silence you.”

Members are encouraged to purchase the novel in advance and review the resources below to join in the discussion, although this is not required.  We’ll hear from Kim about her research and writing and offer the opportunity for small group dialogue with the author.
